The pink backed pelican (Pelecanus refescens) is a bird of pelican family and a resident breeder in the swamps and shallow lakes of Africa.
Habitat and mating
This bird is found in a range of aquatic habitats, but prefers quiet blackwater with shallow water, avoiding steep vegetation lake banks and it also prefers freshwater lakes.
It tends to roost and breed in tree like mangroves, but will roost on sandy islands, cliffs and others.
Nesting trees have many nesters built close together where these nests are re-used every year until the trees collapse, although the birds will normally remain in the area.
The female lays 2 to 3 large white eggs and latter chicks feed by plunging their heads deep into the adults pouch and taking the partially digested.
